The Expert Platform for Energy Efficiency is establishing cooperation with the Baltic countries

In the Lithuanian Embassy in Ukraine was held a meeting between the representatives of The Expert Platform for Energy Efficiency (ExPE) and the officials of the Republic of Lithuania, Mission Fund “Unija 1219”, “The Baltic way” platform, international financial companies and the business community.

Gvidas Kerušauskas, Minister-Counsellor of the Lithuanian Embassy in Ukraine, opened the meeting stating that Republic of Lithuania strongly supports European aspirations of Ukraine. Currently Ukraine faced significant challenges in energy sector, which is very clear and relevant to Lithuania. This requires urgent and decisive actions. Reducing energy consumption through energy efficiency is critical, effective and economically justified that confirms the experience of Lithuania.

Peter Kraysvitniy, president of “The Baltic way” platform, described the main objectives of the platform and his vision of cooperation with the ExPE. He welcomed the joint efforts of leading experts within the same organization, indicating understanding of effectiveness of common actions in energy and economic crises in Ukraine.

Oleksii Khabatiuk, Deputy Head of The Expert Platform for Energy Efficiency (ExPE), reported to the audience about the goals of the platform and what problems in energy and energy efficiency sectors, according to experts of ExPE, need urgent solution and mechanisms of its realization. Among the basic aspects of work top-priority are:

  • change the national legislation of Ukraine in these areas according to undertaken obligations within the framework of Energy Community and Association Agreement between the EU and Ukraine;
  • development of financial mechanisms and attraction of financial resources for energy efficiency measures, in particular with thermal modernization of residential buildings.

Experts of ExPE, Alexander Boiko, Mykola Kolomyichenko and Eduard Kulbak, who also took part in the meeting, have expressed their vision of the situation in their spheres of competence, necessary steps and areas of cooperation.

Following the meeting between ExPE and "The Baltic Way" platform was signed the memorandum on cooperation in the field of energy efficiency, renewable energy sources and reduction of environmental impact.
